Who Was John the Baptist?

John the Baptist is for many centuries a mystery figure of the New Testament. No one dares tell either his true role or who he was. Mark [1:1-8] tells us about John thusly: “The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
[1-3] “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way—a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.”
[4-8:] “And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. And this was his message: After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
A dedicated Christian may have read and/or heard the passage hundreds of times, and never given much thought what it REALLY tells or does not tell. So, let us read the text with closer attention.

Who is John? He is clearly a herder of camels and an ascetic on behalf of a community that he is herding camels for. His activity as a baptizer takes place after he has returned from the grazing fields and is back in Judea and his village known as Jerusalem. Nothing is said that Jerusalem is more than a street in a village where huts face (like in most ancient villages) inward, and a sacred gate at either end of the street keeps out lions, tigers and human marauders. As argued in blogs (see 5) above, so-called Judea or whatever its real name is in Khazaria, which today is about the countryside of Ukraine, once upon a time ancient Byzantium.

What confirms John as a ‘preaching man’ preaching  Catholic doctrine is that as far as Luke knows (Luke 3:12-14), John also baptizes tax collectors and soldiers.

However, even a brief moment of reflection will reveal that John is preaching against his interests as a herdsman and those who have engaged him to herd their herds as well. Had John had anything to do with writing the book of ‘good news’, he would likely have preached against accepting taxation and soldiering, as neither profession serves those who keep animals for the upkeep and survival of themselves and their families.

After considering the above and other things, it appears that John is no ‘forerunner’, but the REAL THING. His appearance on the stage is likely due to the threat the elites presented to the peace loving and democratic people of the wood on whom they tried to impose their will. John likely preached resistance and warned that failing to do so meant loss of an ancient and paradisiac life style. John also likely preached an early form of human rights. Indeed, once the hogwash about repentance is removed and the lord’s villa and fort is replaced with what had been for nearly forever the wood, it will be discovered that John the Baptist has much in common with Robin Hood.

I have proposed (above blogs) that the Jewish-Roman elites arose from among the herders trapped for many years in the far north (Scandinavia, Karelia, Siberia) by snow, ice, and impassable waters. By the time the herders returned to their homelands in the south, they had become hardened men, not reluctant to exploit their forebears.

John was rewarded for his troubles by being captured and murdered by the Vikings (aka Ruric princes, rovers), the new elites. The supporters of John, who had informally given him the title of John Basil or John the King of the Wood, were outraged and attacked the elites.  In order to successfully squelch the rebellion, the latter were forced to create a replacement for him. This is how Jesus, who preached repentance and forgiveness of sins, came to be.

Therefore, has not the time come to take back from the oligarchs their ill-gotten wealth and use it to plant the cities over with trees—the dna of which plantation will for some thousands of years be regenerated by radiation? Is it not time to realize that baptism by ‘the Holy Spirit’ means being sprayed with brainwash by government propaganda apparatchiks who have failed the grade and are redeployed to work the verbal spray cannons of the local fire brigade?
